Sol Negro

Mensaje por blood »

Hi,

This is my first message here, hope i can speak english :p

So, my nick is blood, i'm working on a website about retro gaming and i like some spanish games, especially olders 'cause covers. I know, that's not a famous argument but i've really discover illustrators like Royo & Azpiri with your old compagnies (Especially Dinamic, Topo & Opera, that's not original too).

Today, i'm purchase illustrations from drawers to have videogame covers pictures but in high resolution and without ads. That's hard and i must to know the name of the illustrater of a game to purchase them pics.

And that's why i'm here now, i'm looking for the name of the illustrater of the Topo's game Sol Negro. Topo seems to don't write credits in the manual, so i can't find who have draw the cover and there not informations about that on your SN page :(

Hopeful you can help me,

Thanks :)

Welcome Blood! Enjoy your stay here.

That was a quite hard question, you had me browsing the web to answer it!
First and foremost, Sol Negro was an Opera Soft game! :D Anyway, its cover author is Juan Giménez. His current website (spanish only) is http://www.juangimenez.com/

Cheers!

Thank you for your answers :)

Sorry for the mistake about Opera :p

Juan Giménez... I've find since many months to find the answer myself, thank you so much Juno, now, i've find informations and pictures about Sol Negro, i'm so exciting :D

I've another question, about Alfonso Azpiri this time. Why he have left Dinamic to work for Opera & Topo ? I've a theory, please tell me what you think. Maybe the fact of Phantis have be don't release in the international market but have rennomed in Game Over II with a new cover signed Louis Royo have be sad Azpiri and that's why he have left Dinamic ?

Phantis's girl cover is Lorna too ?

I'm currently download all covers for micros & consoles to identify the name of of illustraters of my favorite's covers and i've find a spanish style in results. An heroic fantasy/SF style with babes, gothic, postnuke and dark colors, very special but i like it, i've buy in my town a Louis Royo artbook, Visions with a vampire girl in cover, do you know ?

Cheers :)

You are welcome.

As far as I know Azpiri was not on Dinamic's payroll (like Royo, he was a freelance) it's just that he liked to create videogame covers on demand.
But I might be wrong, so I better let any other forum member to make this subject clear. ^_^'

Nope, she sure has those big... eyes... But Lorna was a comic character before the videogame was created, and the girl from Phantis wasn't.

:)

Luis Royo was always a freelance, but not Azpiri. He began his relation with the videogames being a member of Dinamic, but he had problems with the Ruiz brothers and he stopped working with them. After that, he did a lot of covers for Opera and Topo (even he did one for a Delta game, "Sideral War"), but only like a freelance.

If you are into the art of Luis Royo and Azpiri, they published compilatios of their art. They can easily be found on comic book stores, at least in Spain. Some of the volumes include their game covers too.

What's the name of these books ?

I think to make a review about illustrators per country. I think write about Azpiri, Royo & Gimenez for the Spain. I'm work on videogame site so i think write in first about them work in videogame industry. Put the list of work, link to official website, some pictures from artbook and write a little biography for each personn because, videogame illustrator is a hide job i think. There are too many to list them here. You can get a list and browse the covers at the Norma Editorial website. Just enter the name of the author on the search bar and check the results.
